vintage pickup with a flathead engine for quite some time.
When we found a ‘41 Ford Pickup “Retro Rod” at Spud’s Garage
we were interested but concerned since we could not
personally verify the quality of construction or the
condition. However, because of Spud’s Garage presentation,
reputation, and testimonials we decided to investigate.
After speaking with Brian and getting a local shop to do an
inspection and then speaking with the owner/builder, we

This 1940 Ford is the first car I have ever
purchased without first seeing the car in person. Early on
in my search for an old car approximately two years ago on
the internet came across a Website called
www.Spudsgarage.com. The owner Brian Hanold, not only
shows detailed pictures of each car but has a video
detailing his take of the car. He points out not only the
impressive details of the car, but points out the flaws and
blemishes in the car. Over the years I have listened to his
videos on many cars, even those I had no interest in just to
listen and learn. I came to believe that he gives and honest
and true assessment of each car.
Besides the 32 three window coupe and the
Mercury lead sled, the 1940 was the third favorite car of my
youth. After viewing the video of this 1940 Ford a couple of
times, I was favorably impressed with the history of the
car, who built it, the way the doors closed, the
undercarriage, the care the previous owners had taken with
the car, the diary that came with the car and Brian's
comments and ultimate evaluation of the car.
Although I did not know Brian, I believed he
could be trusted. There were a few things I did not like
about the car, for example, no power steering, no tilt
wheel, no independent suspension, no rear disc
brakes. However, this is a hot rod from an earlier era and
every modification made to the car was completed in a top
notch fashion. It was worth owning and maintaining. You do
get nostalgic when you get older, do you not?
After the car arrived at my home in Florida,
all I can say is that Brian could not have described this
1940 Ford more accurately. I would unqualifiedly recommend
him to any person in the car market for the type of cars he
advertises.

Update(s):
The
car arrived in Florida approximately two weeks ago. Last
weekend took it to a Cruise-In at one of the town
squares. Received many compliments. This weekend drove it
approximately 40 miles to a car show in Inverness, FL. The
cars were judged by Manufacturer. All Fords of any year were
judged against each other. The 1940 came away with a trophy
for 2nd best Ford at show. Pretty good since this car was
restored in 1995. Brian was right on when he said in his
video, "This car will still win trophies."
Showed
the 1940 at the Black Diamond Invitational Car Show, at the
Black Diamond Country Club, Lecanto, FL on 5 Nov 2018. Cars
are displayed on golf course. Similar to Pebble Beach only
less cars and much smaller crowds. The car were judged in
two classes Classic and Modern. The classiest car show I
have attended since moving to central Florida. The 1940
Ford won a crystal trophy for one of the outstanding cars in
the Classic Division. Again Spudman's prediction about this
car was right on the money.
12/06/20 Guys: The
old flamer has not been out to shows in sometime due to
virus. Today went to Don Garlit's Drag Racing Museum for the
20th Annual Toys for Kids Show. At least 350 cars in
attendance. The old forty did not disappoint. There were
40 People choice awards. Old flame won one and was awarded
an additional judged trophy for Outstanding paint of all
cars entered. Not bad since the car was painted over 30
years ago. That lacquer paint really shines, and flames
still burn. See attached picture taken by fellow in

Went with a couple of Mopar guys to show
up in Inverness, Fl. 175 cars, 25 People choice awards, 4
best of show picks, judged I believe. 1 Mopar, 1 GM, 1
Ford, and 1 other which was won by an old Rolls
Royce. Many good looking fords in the show, including
several cobras, mustangs, customs cars and trucks, and one
Pantera. The old flame which I purchased based on your
description and recommendations was again dead on and it
"Won Best Ford in Show."

Brian did an excellent job hooking me up with the owner of a gorgeous little '32 Ford model B roadster. Both the Brian and the owner were courteous to all my stupid questions and helped me along with the transactions of my purchase. I can say it was quite painless. And to further my experience Brian put me in contact with the shipper of my car Ken Gold. Ken was easy to talk to and we agreed on a price that didn't bankrupt me for the shipping of my car in an enclosed trailer. Ken also waived the deposit fee, as I had problems with my credit card, so he trusted me with paying later when I got my new card. Ken also found a driver who was already in route and my car should be delivered 3 to 4 days early. Overall, it was a great experience and I couldn't be happier. I feel like a kid at Christmas again.

Well you have done it again Brian. When you first promoted the Mustang Indy Pace Car to me, I thought it was far too modern for me. Then I thought about the 5 Litre Cobra V8. Then the fact that it was a 5,000 mile only car and when I viewed the photo's especially the under body, I was sold. Well it has arrived "Down Under" now and what a lovely car it is. Not exactly ideal for me, I'm a bit too big and old to suit a wee sports car but for my wife, it is perfect. This of course allows me to search for other cars for my collection. Regarding our deal, I will say that the car exceeded all my expectations and I truly love it. It is still original and fiddle string tight. I always get a thrill when demonstrate how the doors shut so effortlessly and solid. It drives like a dream and runs flawlessly. I am amazed at the acceleration off the line considering the 308: 1 rear end , but it really excites on the on -ramps or passing other cars. Buries the speedo with nonchalant smoothness and before you realize it!! I did not say that. I do not actually drive it as much as I would like and have only put around 300 miles on it.
Well, Merry Christmas and sincere thanks for making it such a great experience for me. Being the cynic that am, it pleases me to no end to find a man of your integrity.
